Expedition Biodiversity: Life on the Rocks
Reptiles and amphibians are found in a variety of ecosystems on our planet. Not only are they found in the tropics, but these cold-blooded creatures also inhabit temperate regions and even the Polar Circle. Some species require pristine rainforest to thrive or even just survive, while others find refuge in man-made structures.
Now you can follow a couple on their adventures across the globe as they showcase the amazing diversity of reptiles and amphibians, small or large, harmless or deadly, within their natural habitats in this new online video series.
THE HERPARAZZI TEAM
The Herparazzi team is comprised of Candace Hansen and Iwan Hendrikx, both of whom have been featured in various forms of media ranging from TV documentaries, TV series, radio shows, news shows, newspaper/magazine articles and more.
The cornerstone of their adventures together was the formation of The Sticky Tongue website. Initially this website featured biodiversity and science news, focusing primarily on reptiles and amphibians. Within a couple of months of being launched it was ranked as the #1 Biodiversity site in 2010 by the renowned Dr. Stuart Pimm of Duke University. In his review he stated that, “The Sticky Tongue is a quirky, imaginative approach to informing and educating about biodiversity and conservation.”
It then grew from there. The website became their story and platform as they began to travel together. The site’s focus was then shifted almost exclusively to reptiles and amphibians and as well as their herpetological field adventures. Added to the site was not just photos of their expeditions into the field, but also several short videos featuring species encountered during their adventures.
Together, they have changed people’s views of reptiles and amphibians from one based on fear and repulsion to one based on admiration, interest and respect. Audiences have been left wanting to discover more about these species.
By expanding their reach and traveling to more locations around the globe, their motto: “It’s not just about the animals … it’s also about the adventure” is something these two truly live by.
While both Candace and Iwan have an impressive track record in reptile and amphibian handling, including highly venomous snakes, they will be showing most animals in-situ (situated in it’s original, natural, or existing place or position).
Season One brings viewers along with Candace and Iwan as they travel to Canada, The Netherlands and The UK. This series definitely has no shortage of fascinating and captivating stories and animals to share!
